Drought and Rain

It seem as if a blowdryer has been blowing on us for weeks,
Until our world was shriveled and crispy
ready to burst into flames
if you look at it the wrong way.
We sadly watched the smoke rise across the valley as field fires ignited,
The constant smell of smoke in our noses from burning deserts.
But most heartbreaking to me
was the sight of smoke
rushing up into the mountains
toward the trails and peaks
that are my place of refuge from the world.

Then my prayers were more earnest.
Please, send us rain. Please.

This morning, I woke to clouds
Have I ever rejoiced at a cloudy day before?
We went outside
delighted each time we felt a raindrop
until we couldn't tell the difference between them
and then we sang and danced
as the rain soaked into our parched
hair and faces and clothes.

Rain has never been so delicious, for the thirst we had before.

More Springtime flowers

Is it sad that the only reason I take beautiful pictures nowadays is so that my mother can see her garden?  Oh well, to every time there is a season....
Let me share with you some of Mom's flowers.  Consider these a personal bouquet from me to you.

Tulip Bouquet for my Mother

The tulips are beautiful this year.

More than one person has commented on them and admired them aloud to me.

I gave you all the credit.

They said, "Who needs to go to the Tulip Festival?"

I smiled modestly on your behalf.

But they are right.

These are just as beautiful as any I've seen in a professional garden.

I know that you are cold right now, and so I send their love to warm you.

We know they are beautiful because of your love and hard work.

I've been working on different kinds of flowers.

These ones require a lot of hard work too, and patience and love.

And bring a similar kind of delight when I step back and look at how beautiful they are.

Thank you, Mom, for teaching me to love flowers.

I spoke too soon...

This is the face of Spring in our parts.
